Max Burgi wurde am 9. März 1882 in Genève geboren. Sein Beruf war Druckermeister. Bereits in den jungen Jahren schrieb er für verschiedene Zeitungen1898 - 1904 war er Korrespondent für "Velo" und "L'Auto" sowie Journaliste für "La Suisse sportive" Er betrieb verschiedene Sportarten wie u.a. Radsport, Laufen, Boxen und Fechten.
Engagement für mehrereSportvereine und Gründer einer schwez. Radrennfahrer Gewerkschaft. 1920-1930 sowie 1936- 1946 Präsident des Union Cycliste Suisse. Ab 1906 war er bereits Delegierter der UCI deren Präsident er in den Jahren 1936 bis 1938 wurde. Anschliessend wurde Max Burgi zum Ehrenpräsident gewählt. Er starb in Gèneve am 26. April 1946
