When I met him at home in November 2012 I was able to snuggle his Yellow Jersey from the 1952 Tour de France, and hear how we was the first rider to race up Alpe D'Huez in Yellow. Yesterday I heard (January 14)that he passed away in his sleep, that Big Man from the times of Coppi and Bartali and Magni. I had written a story . . Last Man Standing . . after meeting him at Nove Ligure. I wonder, do they now pedal or race together, and will Sandrino (Andrea his given name) be the absolutely perfect Domestique that was how he raced.
A lovely Man, I was so lucky to meet him.
