'Roels „most aggressive rider“ in the Queen Stage

MILRAM's Brett Lancaster could not defend his leader's yellow jersey in the first stage of the Deutschland Tour (Sept. 29 – Aug. 6 / UCI ProTour), as expected.  In fact, stomach problems forced the Australian time trial specialist to leave the race on the 178 km from Kitzbühel up to Hochfügen.  The stage was marked by the „most aggressive“ rider of the day, Dominik Roels, who was brought back from his breakaway after about 150 km.  The stage win and yellow jersey went to Linus Gerdemann (Team Columbia) ahead of his teammate Thomas Lövkvist and Janez Brajkovic (Astana).  The best MILRAM finisher was Christian Knees, who came in as 35th, 5:21 minutes down.

Vittorio Algeri, MILRAM Directeur Sportif, on the Queen Stage:
„Brett had such severe stomach problems, that he could hardly stay on his bike.  We tried everything so that he could stay in the race, but in the end it just wasn't possible.  Despite this bad news, we did very well today, especially thanks to Dominik Roels, and put our mark on the stage.“

MILRAM's Dominik Roels on the first stage of the D-Tour:

„Our goal today was to be in the escape group of the day.  I got the chance to be in the break right at the beginning, and I took advantage of it.  Too bad that I couldn't take the mountain jersey, I was too slow at the last sprint.  When I was finally caught, I couldn't hold up any more and ended up fighting my way to the finish with Björn Schröder.
